A lot of video editors have never had a chance to work with 4K footage. Here are some places you can get stock 4K footage to experiment with or use in your projects.

Want to experiment with editing 4K footage? Need some additional footage for a 4K project? Here are some great sources for free 4K footage.

1. Mitch Martinez

Mitch Martinez 4k Footage

Philadelphia-based director of photography Mitch Martinez recently released over 1,500 stock footage clips. Over 35 categories of 4K footage can be downloaded for free.

The clips can be used for film and commercial applications of any size, as long as you attain a release form. The footage has been used in all sorts of productions, including features like Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

The full 4K library is fully donation based, not corporate sponsored. All donations go towards maintaining the resources and adding new content. ProRes and RED files are available for purchase.

Visit Mitch’s website to see all of the available 4K footage.

2. Iris 32

Iris 32 4K

Frederick Tschernutter has donated the best of his 4K footage for free. The goal is to “enjoy, create and enrich mankind.” Thousands of 4K UHD clips are available for any private or commercial project.

All shot on the RED ONE and RED EPIC, the 4K footage can be used under a Creative Commons license. All distribution rights are included.

The only restriction: reselling of single or multiple clips is forbidden, specifically on footage platforms.

It has taken me 7 years, a broken leg and thousands of hours to produce the content I am sharing freely with you, so please add the following credit, whenever possible.

Attribution CC BY 4.0 – Author and film maker: Copyright 2014, Frederick Tschernutter

To download in full 4K resolution, click on the link in the description of each video. Tschernutter also thanks his fellow filmmakers; Helmut Strasser, Theodoros Nicolaides, Richard and Ronan Saretta, and Mark Whatmore.

You can view their library on YouTube or download from the Iris32 website.

3. Videvo

Videvo 4K

Videvo offers free clips in 4K and 1080p. You can use all the clips in any commercial or non-commercial project. Like the other sites, they just ask that you don’t resell the footage or, “we will be very angry with you, and we will tell your parents.”

If you feel like contributing, you can also upload your own footage. The clips will be verified by a moderator and then made available for download.

The only thing they ask in return is that you share your experience on social media before you download. That’s the only catch. Visit the Videvo website for more.

4. RocketStock

RocketStock-4K

Not only does RocketStock sell and give away Free After Effects templates, they give away all sorts of stuff. They recently released a 4K Light Leaks pack.

Check out their Free Stuff tab. They put up new project files every month.
