A barcarolle is a folk song sung by Venetian gondoliers, or a piece of music composed in that style. In classical music, one of the most famous barcaroles is by Jacques Offenbach, from his opera The Tales of Hoffmann. Romantic, beautiful, and stirring.

  • Jean-Joseph Mouret (1682, Avignon - 1738) was a French composer whose dramatic works made him one of the leading exponents of Baroque music in his country. Mouret's name survives today thanks to the popularity of the Fanfare-Rondeau from his first Suite de symphonies. It is a popular musical choice in many modern weddings.
