3D Video Comes to Final Cut Pro X!
Dashwood Cinema Solutions, maker of 3D post production applications, has recently released their Stereo 3D Toolbox LE for Final Cut Pro, FCPX, Motion and After Effects.
With all of the hype surrounding 3D technology and production in the last few years, I found it a bit surprising that Apple didn’t include built in tools stereoscopic (3D) editing tools within FCPX (although we all know now 3D tools weren’t the only thing missing from this major update). Dashwood Cinema Solutions has remedied this shortfall with the release of a powerful plugin that allows for 3D editing and export. Continuing to support Final Cut Pro 7, Dashwood’s Stereo 3d Toolbox LE (Light Edition) is now avaliable for FCPX and is fully compatible with the Lion OS.
Highlights of the plugin include:
- Fast Camera Alignment
- 2D Bypass Output (great for approvals)
- Convergence Adjustment
- “Quick Nest Tool” – for combining clips
- 3 import options: left and right, line-by-line interlaced (field sequential) or side by side.
- Upload directly to YouTube 3D
As of yet, there has been no official word from Apple regarding the inclusion of 3D in future FCPX updates… making this plugin a good investment for Final Cut Pro editors working in 3D. It’s a powerful toolset, currently available for the low price of $99. If you’re looking for an even more comprehensive 3D post solution, check out Dashwood’s full version of Stereo3D toolbox. It’s not yet available for FCPX but will run on FCP 6/7 and After Effects and comes with a $1,500 price tag.
Stereo3D Toolbox LE runs within FXFactory.
