Roger Deakins, the acclaimed cinematographer, has long been a staple of commentary and study here on this blog<\/a>. And for those who don’t know James Ellis Deakins, she is the longtime script supervisor, collaborator, and spouse of Roger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this new podcast, the two talk about the business of filmmaking, cinematography, and the entire creative process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Team Deakins podcast is an ongoing conversation between acclaimed cinematographer Roger Deakins and James Deakins, his collaborator, about cinematography, the film business and whatever other questions are submitted. We start with a specific question and end….who knows where! We are joined by guests periodically. Matt Wyman, an aspiring DP, is our frequent collaborator. Followup questions can be posted in the forums at www.rogerdeakins.com.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is already a collection of episodes live since the podcast launched last week. So far topics include the beginning of their filmmaking careers, working together as a couple, scouting locations, practical lighting, and composition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The couple have always stated they will occasionally visit with colleagues, like Beverly Wood, a former Executive VP at Deluxe and Managing Director of eFilm. The interview goes over the journey of film to digital<\/a>, and the process of filmmaking from dailies to release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, we had to start somewhere! We had so many ideas that we wanted to cover and did, indeed, record first but our cohort, Matt, did ask \u201cDoesn\u2019t it make sense to start with the beginnings?\u201d And he was completely right. So we started with an episode that speaks about where we started and what our path was.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, we did wonder, at first, why on earth it would be at all interesting, but Matt convinced us. And it does make sense, I suppose, to start at the beginning! It\u2019s a good way to introduce ourselves and set up the style of the podcast in general. As you\u2019ll see, it\u2019s a conversation and VERY casual.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So let\u2019s start at the beginnings \u2013 and go on from there!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
