The “Match Frame” function defines most simply what it does: \u00a0it matches a video frame used in your project back to it’s source in the Browser (FCP 6\/7) or Event Library (FCPX). <\/strong><\/p>\n <\/strong><\/p>\n <\/strong>Called “Match Frame” in FCP 7 (and earlier FCP versions) and “Reveal in Event\u00a0Browser” in FCPX, the shortcut for this function also varies slightly between applications.<\/p>\n For the\u00a0uninitiated, let me share a recent real world example of when you might use this very handy FCP tool….<\/p>\n Recently I’m cutting an interview for a client. \u00a0After stringing together a rough cut and watching it through, the client has me stop playback. \u00a0 “Does he [the interview subject] say anything else about his family a bit later in that sentence?” she asks. \u00a0Instead of having to go back and find that sentence in the raw clips (by copying timecode or just sifting through all the footage), I use the Match Frame function to quickly locate that same piece of video in the Browser. \u00a0 I can immediately playback that same sentence in the raw clip, revealing an additional comment about “family” a minute later in the footage.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n As you can see, we’re talking SERIOUS time savings<\/strong>…. especially<\/em> useful if you don’t have timecode notes. \u00a0 Years ago, when I first started cutting with FCP, I went months without knowing this shortcut. \u00a0Now I don’t know how I edited without it.<\/p>\n Overall, I much prefer the Match Frame function in FCP 6\/7… due in large part to the more clunky interface of FCPX (I really miss having the playhead under the Canvas). \u00a0Notwithstanding, this handy tool will make your edits more efficient in either application!<\/strong><\/p>\n Are you using the Match Frame tool in FCP? \u00a0What other shortcuts do you use that make your edits faster and more productive? \u00a0Let us know in the comments!<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Learn how to utilize the Match Frame function in Final Cut Pro 6\/7 as well as FCPX!
