YouTube users can now upload, watch, and share stereoscopic VR<\/strong> footage on YouTube. It may seem insignificant, but this new VR<\/strong> feature has big<\/em> implications for the film industry. Let’s discuss a few of the bigger implications of this important news:<\/p>\n

1. It Democratizes\u00a0VR Distribution<\/h3>\n

Until recently,\u00a0the only way to share and distribute stereoscopic VR<\/strong> content was to use a third-party application. If you wanted to distribute a true VR<\/strong> stereoscopic 3D video, you had to get a developer to create an application to distribute the\u00a0video, or you had to team up with an application that was already out there. This was, of course, cost prohibitive for indie filmmakers.<\/p>\n

Now filmmakers can distribute stereoscopic VR<\/strong> content for free. While this is fantastic for most\u00a0VR<\/strong> filmmakers, it will be interesting\u00a0to see how this plays out for established VR<\/strong> production companies like Jaunt<\/a> and Discovery VR<\/a>.<\/p>\n
