Now, this wasn&#8217;t the first film to use a split screen to star\u00a0two characters played by the same actor, but it was the first major blockbuster success to do so. Walt Disney demanded that the VFX not be visible, and the work paid off as\u00a0<em>The\u00a0Parent Trap<\/em> won the<strong> Oscar for Best Film Editing.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here is a wonderful<strong> behind-the-scenes look at the making of <em>The Parent Trap<\/em><\/strong>. Bass later criticized<strong> split screen and its overuse in the 1960s<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The point is, it\u2019s a device, and as far as I\u2019m concerned I\u2019ll never use it again \u2014 if it actually cries out for it, I\u2019ll use it but as a device it\u2019s lost its currency, because, later on, it was, unfortunately, used meaninglessly. It\u2019s the kind of thing that grows up without ever having a youth and there\u2019s no opportunity to explore it. The film features a &#8220;multi-screen&#8221; montage during a polo match. Designed and edited by <a title=\"Pablo Ferro\" href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0274998\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Pablo Ferro<\/a>, this sequence was created to cut down on the film&#8217;s run time. A fifteen-minute sequence was edited down to two minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>I had 66 images on a 35mm film.
