While\u00a0filmmaking and photography<\/strong> have a lot in common, the skills you develop working in one aren’t always the skills you need to work in the other.\u00a0When you can, it’s best to seek out a professional<\/strong> for services you need outside your skill set. However, if you’re working on a passion project with no budget<\/strong> and no\u00a0photography equipment<\/strong> (such as flash lightning), you need\u00a0to work with what you have when it comes to promotion. Let\u2019s have a look at how you can\u00a0create a poster<\/strong> using your filmmaking camera, a few continuous lights, and a black backdrop<\/strong>.<\/p>\n I shot the two teaser posters<\/strong> in this article in my bathroom and living room. While they’re from different projects, the style for both is the same: low-key and moody. With this basic setup, this sort of image is your easiest option.<\/p>\n Before.<\/p>\n After.<\/p>\n At the time, I didn\u2019t have a DSLR<\/strong>; I only had a RED ONE MX<\/strong>. So I took a cue from Greg Williams’s photoshoot of Megan Fox <\/a>for Esquire \u2014<\/em>\u00a0he\u00a0used the RED ONE and continuous lighting. Williams’s shoot\u00a0was a few years ago when the luxury of pulling a 4K still required\u00a0professional cinema cameras. You can now do this with the Gh4<\/strong> and many other mirrorless and DSLR cameras<\/strong>.
