On the heels of\u00a0the Canon C200 announcement, Panasonic has announced their next cinema camera, the EVA1.<\/h2>\n

After much anticipation and speculation, Panasonic has released the official specs for its next camera<\/strong>\u00a0in the C200<\/a>, FS5<\/a>, and\u00a0FS7<\/a> market. Although the camera doesn’t release until the fall, the team at Panasonic offered a first glimpse at the CineGear Expo<\/strong>, and it seems that Panasonic has finally stepped back into the independent film market<\/strong>. After spending years\u00a0dominating the indie scene with the HVX and DVX cameras<\/strong>, they have returned with what looks to be a very competitive and exciting camera. Let’s\u00a0break down the camera’s five most exciting features.<\/p>\n

EF Mount<\/h3>\n

Many of us own multiple EF mount lenses. The native EF mount<\/strong> makes working with your own collection\u00a0of lenses easier \u2014 and it creates\u00a0options for some quality glass. Unlike the Sony FS5 or FS7<\/strong>, the Panasonic EVA1 makes mounting\u00a0EF glass a breeze.\u00a0The fact that you won’t have to run an EF mount adapter with this camera is huge. There are many manufacturers that make excellent EF-mounted glass.<\/p>\n

5.7k Sensor<\/h3>\n

Panasonic’s engineers really did their research to offer the best 4k image possible<\/strong>. Their team\u00a0found that sampling the image at 5.7k<\/strong> and recording at 4k<\/strong> will offer the best possible image. This process will also offer more color information to your 4K image, giving you more in the color grade.<\/p>\n

Dual Native ISO<\/h3>\n

When Panasonic announced the VariCam<\/a>, one of the most exciting features was the dual native ISO<\/strong>. The fact that you could have a high ISO (e.g. 4000) was monumental. The EVA1 will feature this option as well. Although the exact numbers are still a mystery, this feature is exciting. This camera will see a lot of documentary and lowlight work<\/strong> that will benefit from this feature.<\/p>\n

4K at 60p<\/h3>\n

This camera features wonderful slow motion capability<\/strong>. As a base, this camera offers 4k at 60p, but it’s capable of\u00a0up to 240fps at a 2k resolution<\/strong>. Packaging these features into such a small machine, makes this camera a stronger contender than its competitors.<\/p>\n

400 Mbps Recording<\/h3>\n

With a max recording rate of 400 mbps<\/strong>, the Panasonic EVA1 features a data rich recording rate. A data rate with this much information hearkens back to\u00a0the Canon C300 Mark II<\/a>; a\u00a0rate this high in a package this small\u00a0is an excellent combination and will give you plenty of information to work with.<\/p>\n

The Panasonic EVA1 is poised to be an excellent production camera<\/strong>. It offers\u00a0a lot of promising features that will help it compete in the\u00a0C200, FS5, and FS7 market<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
