But the integration of the two is quite unique.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The goal was &#8220;not make it feel like a musical where everything is heavily choreographed. Built from some reshoots we did on Scott Pilgrim, then to The World&#8217;s End we <strong>put together a lot of the action scenes together with me on set<\/strong>. To this film, where actually Edgar saying &#8216;Yeah, you know I think I might want you out there everyday&#8217; basically&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For the film to work just right, <strong>Machliss had to be on set editing to verify that the timing of each shot was perfect<\/strong>:\u00a0&#8220;To make it work you had to sort of be there at the moment of creation . . . I was there every day of every moment of every take. Edgar would do a take and yell &#8216;Cut!&#8217; and then from the other side of the set go &#8216;How was that Paul?&#8217; . . . and sort of wait until you went . . . &#8216;Yes it&#8217;s good.&#8217; Then he felt he could move on. He managed to put together an editing cart, pictured\u00a0above: &#8220;This was the edit cart, basically, which was loaned to me by the sound department when we very quickly learned that I had to be absolutely mobile.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The cart is pretty bare bones \u2014 a MacBook Pro, some external hard drives, &#8220;[Avid] <strong>Media Composer with an A-grade monitor<\/strong> which doubled either as a second screen for Media Composer, or as a full screen in its own right when Edgar wanted to come over and say &#8216;How does that look?'&#8221;\u00a0Also, <strong>take note of the keyboard in the picture above<\/strong>. You&#8217;ll see it again once production wraps.<\/p>\n<p>If you look at the monitor on the cart, you&#8217;ll <strong>notice the film&#8217;s storyboards embedded in the edit<\/strong>. That&#8217;s because nearly every sequence\u00a0underwent meticulous calculation in pre-production to properly sync the action and music.
