What is a Cue Sheet?
A cue sheet is a document filled with all the details of the music used in an audio and/or visual production to be broadcasted in a film or TV. Performing Rights Organisations (PRO) will use this cuesheet to identify which artists should receive performance royalties. Without cue sheets and the dedication of PROs, it would be impossible for composers and publishers to be compensated for the broadcasting of their music.
Usually broadcasters pay a fixed amount to a Performing Rights Organisation (PRO) for a license to broadcast shows with music. PROs use this licensing income to pay royalties to the composer and publisher of the music. There is no additional cost to you, the producer, in filling up these cue sheets. Besides being a legal requirement, it will take you a few minutes and will allow our composers to receive their fair share for the public performance of their music.
You do need to fill out cue sheets if your program is to be broacasted on radio stations, television network or for a theatrical film presentation. It is best to submit cue sheets as soon as possible, ideally no later than three months after the original broadcast.
