About our audio
What is royalty free audio?
“Royalty-free” refers to intellectual property that a person can license to use without the need to pay royalties, or recurring payments, to the intellectual property owner or creator. When it comes to royalty-free audio, users pay for a license that allows them to use music in certain projects. These projects include but are not limited to a website, social media channels, YouTube videos, podcasts, films, theatre productions, commercials, and more. When incorporating music into a project, it is highly important that you ensure the music you are working with is royalty-free. If it is not, you must pay royalties to the intellectual property owner or face legal consequences for using copyrighted material without permission. Fortunately, every song you hear on PremiumBeat is royalty-free, so after selecting your ideal license and paying a one-time fee, you can add tracks to your projects with complete peace of mind.
How do you use royalty free audio?
Royalty-free audio can be used to enhance a number of projects. Web projects such as YouTube videos, Netflix content, podcasts, social media and online advertising all benefit from the use of music, as do corporate videos, personal videos, apps, games, plays, and films. Film projects specifically can benefit greatly from the addition of royalty free music. Within the PremiumBeat collection, you will find a wide variety of genres and moods, making it that much easier to link audio with your project.
How to create an audio file?
The specifics here will depend on the type of technology you are using. Smartphones and computers both have the ability to create audio files. If using an iPhone, for example, you would open the Voice Memos app. Press the red record button to begin your recording and then press the red stop button to end the recording. Click Done, name your recording, and then click Save. Alternatively, if you use a computer, you will need to open QuickTime Player on a Mac or the Sound Recorder application on a PC. If working with Mac, click “File>New Audio Recording.” Click the red record button to begin recording and the black stop button to end recording. Click “File>Save As” to save your file to a location of your choosing. Of course, it’s just the beginning. If you plan to create professional sound recordings, you may need to go through specialized training and get relevant gear like pro microphones and instruments.
How to upload audio to YouTube?
Because YouTube does not support the direct upload of audio files such as .MP3 or .WAV files, you will need to convert your audio to video in order to upload. There are several ways to go about doing this, but one of the easiest is to convert audio to video using video editing software. YouTube Movie Maker is one such software. Download that, open the software, and click the red “+” button. You will then select “Add audio” to add your chosen audio file. Right click the audio in the upper left window and select “Add Selected To > Audio 0 Line.” Look to the horizontal toolbar at the top of the page and select the second option, which is the “Options” dropdown menu, and select “Movie Setting.” You can then select the video format you would like your audio converted into. Choose an option that reads, “Recommended for YouTube.” You will then click the “Render” button on the right side of the page. Save your newly created video to your computer and you will be ready to go to your YouTube page to upload your video. Check out an example of what such a video might look like on YouTube.
How to sync audio to video?
There are different ways to go about syncing audio to video but your three best options are Red Giant’s PluralEyes software, Premiere Pro’s “Merge” or “Synchronize” options, or the manual method. The first two options will save you time, but you can always opt to line your audio and video up manually. To do so, start by pulling the video file and corresponding audio file into the timeline of your editing software with the two loosely stacked. Ideally, in the original recording, you clapped or used a slate to mark the start of the take. If so, you simply need to zoom in on your audio track and find the spike in the waveform which represents your slate. Once you have found it, put a marker directly on that clip as well as on your audio file. Then simply slide the audio file so that the markers line up. Play your clip and pay close attention to make sure all is in sync. If you’d like to learn more about syncing audio and video, check out our blog.

How to use royalty-free audio:

Audio for YouTube videos

Royalty-free audio is an excellent choice when it comes to YouTube videos. This is in part because YouTube takes copyright infringement seriously. YouTube’s sophisticated Content ID software scans every uploaded video against a database to ensure no copyright infringement is taking place. If your video includes a copyrighted song that you do not have permission to use, YouTube will mute or takedown your video. No one wants that! Instead, check out royalty-free audio that bears a resemblance to some of your favorite copyrighted tracks. If you want R&B tracks in your videos, for example, simply explore PremiumBeat’s R&B collection. Narrow down your search by selecting a subgenre, adjusting the BPM (Beats Per Minute) sliders, selecting your preferred duration, and more. Once you have found music you love, add the tracks to your cart, head to checkout, and select the appropriate license. Download your tracks, edit them into your YouTube videos, and upload your videos to your YouTube channel. Bam. You’re ready to go.

Audio for podcasts

Help your podcast stick in the minds of listeners by adding an audio logo to the start of each episode. An audio logo is a short musical sequence or jingle that effectively brands your podcast. When your audience hears this recognizable little tune, they will instantly know they are about to catch the latest installment of your show. Head to PremiumBeat’s search engine, click the “Genres” option, and select “Audio Logos” to get started. As you listen to the various tracks, be sure to keep the topic of your podcast in mind. If your show discusses the natural world, for example, then an audio logo that features wooden, natural-sounding instruments would be a good way to go. If you have a gaming podcast, however, a techno sound would likely be more your speed. Once you have found the sound that fits your show, download the track and drop it in your chosen editing software. Record yourself announcing the name of the show and a little tagline atop the track so that your audience effortlessly connects the song with your show.

Audio for radio ads

Radio ads usually run in 15-, 30-, and 60-second increments. Effective radio ads get a point or message across quickly, in a way that is memorable to listeners. Background music is a powerful way to enhance a radio ad. You want something catchy and upbeat that doesn’t distract listeners from the ad’s message. PremiumBeat has several filters to help you find this sort of music. Under “Genres,” check out “Corporate,” under “Mood,” try “Feel Good” or “Fashion / Lifestyle.” Once you have found a track that matches the tone and feel of your radio advertisement, add it to your cart, and head to checkout. Select the Premium license and download your new music. Every track you download also comes with 15-, 30-, and 60-second shorts of the full song, making it that much easier for you to match the track to your radio ad.
