Tutorial: How You Can Travel the World Making Videos
Traveling the world is a fantastic way to create unique, cinematic videos. So how do you afford it, and how can you actually make money doing it?
This past year, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to travel the world making cinematic videos. I want to show you how you can do the same and make money while you’re at it. So let’s take a look.
Make a Calling Card
Develop a solid reel, showcasing anything from your last vacation to your hometown. Once you feel confident with your project, publish it everywhere on social media — you want to get as many eyes on your work as possible. Here are some examples of simple videos I’ve made that have landed me work.
Network
Approach brands, influencers, and events, then tell them your idea for travel. Reach out through email and social media, asking potential clients if they want a video to advertise their brand. You should attach your latest travel video in the message so they can understand your style. Having a foot in the door is a leg up but not always necessary. Just use what you have available, and network with as many people as possible. There are plenty of clients out there who want videos. Trust me.
Keep in mind that when you begin this journey, your jobs might be free with the expenses paid. if you keep at it, eventually your work will get recognized, and you’ll begin to make some money. Your network will continue to expand as you accumulate more jobs. Brands watch other brands, and events partner with other events. Over time, these competitors and colleagues will want to implement your work into their advertising.
