Canon EOS C700: The New Flagship Canon Cinema Camera
The new Canon Cinema EOS C700 was built for every type of video production, but you’ll need quite the production budget to get your hands on one.

The Canon EOS C700 (not to be confused with the Canon C700 printer) takes over as the new top-of-the-line video production camera in the Cinema EOS line. That said, it comes with a top-of-the-line price tag — body only starting at $28,000. With this camera, Canon aims to compete with the likes of the Panasonic Varicam LT and the Sony F55. This is certainly one of the most modular cameras Canon has ever put out in the Cinema EOS line.
The Canon C700 comes with either an EF or PL mount. The EF model has a Super 35mm CMOS Sensor. The PL model of the C700 will come with either Super 35mm CMOS sensor or a Global Shutter. In fact, the C700 PL can be sent in to Canon to swap the Super 35mm CMOS sensor for one with global shutter. The ability to turn a C700 PL into a C700 GS PL hints at potential major updates in the future.
The EOS C700 has both internal 4K ProRes and XF-AVC recording. Canon collaborated directly with Codex to create an optional 4K Codex CDX-3150 recorder that can record uncompressed RAW up to 120fps.
The C700 also has an all new EVF with a full 1080p OLED display. There is also a new remote control unit that can be attached to the Assistant Camera side or held at a distance.
The Canon EOS C700 starts at $28,000 for the EF Super 35mm CMOS body. Perhaps the best part of this announcement, the Canon C500 4K got a price drop of $3,000.
