Rumor: Canon to Announce the Cinema EOS C200 and 6D Mark II

Published: Last Updated:

Canon may have a new cinema camera and new DSLR on the horizon.

Update: Canon has officially announced the Canon C200. Read about it here.

Some exciting updates to our original Camera Rumors of 2017 post. It doesn’t look like we will see the Canon Cinema EOS C100 Mark III this year after all, but rather the all new C200.

Rumor: Canon to Announce the Cinema EOS C200 and 6D Mark II — C200

According to Canon Rumors, a “pretty loaded” C200 that can shoot 4K footage will be announced in the coming months. Based on the upcoming event schedule, we can expect to hear the announcement at Cinegear on or around the first of June.

We’re told from one of our retail sources that the next camera body from Canon is going to be the Cinema EOS C200. — Canon Rumors

It’s not yet known if the C200 will replace the C100 Mark II or if it will be an addition to the Cinema EOS line. Knowing how Canon has marketed their past few cameras, I’ll be shocked if the C200 comes out at a reasonable market price. I’m expecting the camera to come in around the $7,000-$9,000 range, even though it should really be around $5,000-$6,000.

Our original predictions and rumors suggested the following specs for what we originally assumed would be the C100 Mark III.

  • 4K video recording up to 60fps
  • 1080p up to 120fps
  • Super 35mm CMOS Sensor
  • PL + EF Mount
  • ISO 100-102,400
  • CFast + SD Card Slots
  • XF-AVC/MPEG-4 AVC/H.264/ProRes
  • RAW capture with external recorder
  • New anamorphic lens announced alongside its release

In other camera news, we also expect Canon to announce the Canon 6D Mark II around the same June-July timeline with a shipping date somewhere in August of 2017. Based on the recent addition of C-log to the 5D Mark IV, we assume that the 6D Mark II will also be able to shoot in C-log. The 5D Mark IV requires a $99 upgrade fee for C-log, so it’s unknown if that capability will be available for the 6D Mark II at launch.

Original Rumored 6D Mark II Specs:

  • 4K up to 30fps
  • 1080p up to 60fps
  • 25 MP sensor
  • Dual SD card slots
  • Articulating screen
  • New super-telephoto lens
  • To be announced spring-summer 2017

Now, keep in mind, until we get any actual announcements, these are still just rumors. That said, speculation is always fun. Sound off in the comments with your thoughts on these new rumors.
